Sun Run Report – Sunday 14th April 2019 – by Sarah Englis
A number of Mustang Endurance athletes competed in the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday April 14th, one of Canada’s largest 10K races. Over 40,000 people took over Vancouver’s downtown core to race through the city streets.
Tyler Dejong made a fine start to his spring season with a superb top 20 finish. Tyler clocked a personal best of 31:09 for 18th place amongst 40,000 runners. Team-mate James Lam also posted a personal best performance in 31:52. Lam was followed by Mustang Endurance athletes Joel Deshiffart (32:41) and Blair Johnson (32:43) who battled hard throughout the race, with Deshiffart edging Johnson by just 2 seconds in the final straight. The men’s race was won by local Justin Kent in a fine 29:30.
Lindsay Carson had a impressive run to finish top 6 in the women’s 10km race. Carson who was part of the Canadian team at the World XC mixed relay in Denmark two weeks ago, showed a good return to form running 34:24 for 6th place. The winner was Natasha Wodak of Vancouver (32:38).
Next up for the group will be chasing more personal bests and FISU qualifying standards at the UBC High performance meet (April 24th), Ralph Vernacchia (April 26th/27th) and TC 10km (April 28th).
